Adding New Email Accounts to Outlook Express

I don't know about you, but the number of times that I have been asked "how do you set-up a new e-mail account in Outlook Express" is astronomical, although quite understandable given the pace of the Internet and the way businesses all over the world are rushing towards it. For example our hosting customers expect to be able to utilise their new email accounts straight away, with the minimum of fuss and they expect us to provide step by step instructions if they hit problems. That where this article comes in to play, we have decided to provide step by step instructions on exactly how to set-up Outlook Express to utilise a new e-mail account, for obvious legal reasons, we accept no responsibility whatsoever for any damage whatsoever caused by following these instructions, it is clearly understood that you follow these instructions at your own risk.

Moving straight on, open your Outlook Express program, then click the tools menu and proceed to move down until Accounts is highlighted as shown below and release the mouse button to open.

This opens the following accounts wizard, as shown below click the Add button and then move the mouse to the right until the word Mail is highlighted and release the mouse button.

Next you will need to enter your name or company name, this is the name that people who receive your emails will first notice. Just fill your name in and click the next button.

Next it's just a matter of entering your e-mail address, double check this a number of times to make sure it is correct, you'll never get a reply if it isn't, once your happy with it simply click the next button.

Next we move on to perhaps the hardest screen, this is where you tell Outlook Express where to look for new mail messages, all Website Designs customers need do is enter their domain names into the Incoming mail server box and the Outgoing mail server box as shown below, for everybody else your hosting company should have provided you with the details to enter here, if they haven't you'll need to ask them for these details. Once entered simply click the next button.

Right now we're almost done, you will now need to enter your account name (normally the part before the @ in your email address) and the password that was used when the email account was set-up, if you would your system to remember your password click the Remember Password box, if you prefer to leave this box unchecked. Once satisfied click the next button.

And that is all there is to it really as shown below your next screen is simply a congratualtions screen, simply click the finish button, close the account menu and your new account is set-up and ready to use in Outlook Express.
