Sausage Software has done it again, not only with their latest Web Editor, which we will get to in a moment, but also with their Web site. The Sausage Web site has one of the best and most amusing flash introduction sequences I have seen in quite a while and it's worth visiting the Sausage site just to see the Sausage Dog act out the role of a secret agent.

Now getting back to Sausage Software's Web editor HotDog Professional 6. HotDog Professional 6 is a word processing type-scripting editor without a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) mode. It utilises a series of toolbars to help speed up the actual development work, allowing you to quickly and easily insert the required coding.

Web sites have come along way from the days when a few lines of HTML would suffice any designer. Most modern Web sites now utilise various script languages and Hotdog Professional 6 now provides native text editing support for the most popular and widely used of these namely HTML, CSS, ASP, VBScript and JavaScript.

When working on a large modern Web site, pages can run into hundreds of lines of coding. Navigating around such a page can take up valuable time as you hunt for that piece of code that needs adapting. HotDog Professional 6 introduces the HTML navigation view, with this you can quickly and easily navigate your way around a Web page. When I first looked at this feature I thought that this will never catch on but in an extremely short time I found myself using this to navigate around each Web page, now I wouldn't like to be without it, it really is an extremely useful feature that saves an enormous amount of time and eye strain to boot as you don't have to scan line after line of code.

Cascading Style Sheets are now used move and move with almost every new site utilising them to some extent or another. One problem many Web editors have had in the past is how to easily implement Cascading Style Sheets so that almost everybody can quickly and easily utilise them as required. Well I'm pleased to note that HotDog Professional 6 has an extremely easy to use Cascading Style Sheet wizard, adding Cascading Style Sheets is as easy as a few simple clicks of the mouse I'm pleased to say.

Another new feature that is both extremely time saving and useful is Script Bits, this is an extremely powerful tool that allows you to quickly and easily add JavaScript to your site. It takes a little getting used to but it is an extremely flexible and well-designed wizard and almost worth the price alone.

HotDog Professional 6 has numerous other features, wizards and tools that I could write a book on I suppose, however I can't help feeling that despite the numerous improvements HotDog Professional 6 brings, it has failed to capitalise on the growing move to Database driven sites, either dynamic or static page type.

But then perhaps Sausage knows best because what HotDog Professional 6 does, it does extremely well. Instead of trying to be all things to all people it offers experienced and novice Web Builders a quick and professional development environment in which to develop all but the most complex web applications. It brings together an extremely impressive arrangement of tools and wizards that will save not only time but also the frustration that goes with trying to get a project finished on time.
